Heart of Virginia Council Camps

The Heart of Virginia Council owns three camp properties, which contain a total of 5 separate camps.  The main property is the Heart of Virginia Scout Reservation. It is the home of the council's long term camps. This 720 acre reservation is located in Goochland County about thirty miles west of Richmond.  On the reservation are three camps that serve long term summer camping and year round camping and activities.  All camps are BSA Nationally Accredited and are managed by an on site reservation superintendent, a camp ranger and resident caretaker.

  • Boy Scout Camp T Brady Saunders boasts the 23 acre Lake Dillon for swimming and boating, 14 campsites, ranges for shotgun, rifle and archery, a 400 seat dining hall, a year round administration and training facility and numerous other buildings and program facilities designed for long term summer camp use. A first class COPE (ropes) course and climbing/rappelling tower area are available for year round use. New latrines and shower facilities are being built and will be ready for the 2007 camping season. You can find further information and Leader's Guides on the Heart of Virginia Council website.
  • The Cub and Webelos Adventure Camp is the council's newest addition, featuring state of the art facilities that are used for summer resident camping, year round camping and activities, and many other training and community functions. The central feature is a Lodge complex that houses the 400 seat climate controlled dining hall, the trading post, camp offices, health lodge and conference room. A variety of housing and camping accommodations are available including Western Fort bunkrooms, teepee structures, mountain cabins, yurts and traditional tent clusters. Program areas include a castle with pool and sprayground, mineshaft, discovery ship, Jamestown fort with shooting ranges, a well appointed Nature Center and an 850-seat amphitheater. More information and the upcoming year's theme can be found on the Heart of Virginia Council website.
  • Camp Douglas Fleet is a fully wooded area that provides year round camping opportunities for a variety of group or unit sizes and includes water, latrines and a large pavilion overlooking Lake Dillon.

Tucked away in rural Chesterfield County is the Albright Scout Reservation, this fine short-term camping facility is composed of 568 acres of wooded campsites, trails, open fields, 9 ponds and water frontage on Lake Chesdin.  It is managed by a resident caretaker.

  • In the Camp Finley Albright section, recently constructed roads, parking areas, shelters, picnic pavilions, latrines and water lend well to this property's use as a natural setting for unit weekend camping and leader training courses.
  • The Gladbrook Ecology Area is a largely open area of some 150 acres that is ideal for camporees, district events and large unit camping.
  • The fully wooded Phillips Wilderness Area is set aside for hike-in camping that promotes Leave No Trace and Low Impact Camping. This area includes access to the Lake Chesdin waterfront as well as orienteering and nature trails. You can find more info and make reservations to camp at Albright Scout Reservation on the Heart of Virginia council website.

Eagle Point is a remote short term use facility, located in Boydton on Buggs Island Lake near the North Carolina state line in Mecklenburg County. This 200 acre tract has excellent water frontage with public boat launches nearby.  The lake was developed and is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This beautiful boating and water sports lake provides outstanding opportunities for unit short-term weekend outings on wooded peninsulas that include latrines, 2 picnic shelters and over 25 rustic campsites. Find more information at the Heart of Virginia Council's website.
